Berry McKee

Barry McKee's artist lectures are a dividing issue. Many people believe it to be great that McKee speaks so simply about his work and find it refreshing to hear an artist seem so down to earth as they speak. However, his lectures are extremely boring as they consist of minimal incite from the artist and a great multitude of questions from members of the audience, each met with a brief and uninformative response. One could learn much more about the artist with a simple use of google than through the attendance of one of his lectures and in this aspect McKee is far more presumptuous than an artist who actually takes the time to discuss his or her work during a lecture, in that he pretends to understand very little about the work which he himself created and tries to seem unsure of its substantiality while standing in front of a room full of college students and professors who have eagerly taken the time to come and hear him speak. Many find his attitude reminiscent of Warhol, though any attempt on the part of McKee to mimic Warhol is ill conceived at best as Warhol's simple method of answering questions was able to capture the nature of his art in a way that McKee's faked stupor can never come close to rivaling.
